AsiaNews Iran" Officially Receives Publishing License from Iran’s Ministry of Culture"
AsiaNews Iran, an independent Persian-language news and analysis platform founded and managed by Iranian journalist "Navid Jamshidi", has officially received its publishing license from Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, following approval by the Press and News Agencies Supervisory Board.

Tehran – "AsiaNews Iran", a news and analytical media outlet founded in September 2024, has officially received its publishing license from the Deputy for Media Affairs and Advertising of Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

According to an official announcement by the outlet’s founder, owner, and editor-in-chief Navid Jamshidi, the license was issued under Article 13 of Iran’s Press Law (ratified in 1986) and registered under License No. 98084, dated August 20, 2025, following approval by the Press and News Agencies Supervisory Board.

AsiaNews Iran was established after the forced loss of the legacy Asia Newspaper and its former digital platforms, which had been founded by Jamshidi’s late father. Determined to preserve that journalistic heritage, Jamshidi and his team rebuilt the newsroom, technical infrastructure, and content database from scratch under a new domain and brand identity.

Despite significant challenges—including heightened scrutiny, legal pressure, and the temporary filtering of the website between October 6 and October 25, 2025—AsiaNews Iran has continued to expand its audience and strengthen its digital presence. The outlet now serves Persian-speaking readers globally, with particular attention to Iranian and Afghan audiences, and operates an independent English-language section.

Jamshidi, who has been active in Iranian journalism since 2000, has previously been detained and interrogated by Iranian security agencies, leading to a temporary suspension of his international media appearances. Observers note that such a background makes the process of obtaining a media license in Iran especially complex.

The issuance of the license grants AsiaNews Iran formal legal recognition as a news outlet, enabling it to operate within Iran’s highly regulated media environment—while continuing to emphasize professional journalism, analytical reporting, and editorial independence.

In a brief statement, Jamshidi described the license as “not the end of a struggle, but the beginning of a heavier responsibility toward readers, journalists, and the broader Persian-speaking public.”
