A flight into southern Italy now needs more than a quick check of the departure time. For travellers heading to Naples, the airport, terminal and ground transfer on the latest booking may matter more than the destination printed on an older confirmation.
Naples Capodichino Airport's planned runway closure began on November 1, 2026. Airport operator GESAC is publishing passenger arrangements for November 1–30, with some traffic accommodated at Salerno Costa d'Amalfi and Cilento Airport. ANSA's October 29 report describes a full-month closure and only a partial transfer of traffic. That is not a promise that every Naples flight will operate from Salerno.
Why the reopening date needs an extra check
There is a discrepancy in the official information. EUROCONTROL's public airport-events register marks the Naples closure as ongoing from November 1, but lists November 22 as its end date. GESAC's Salerno passenger information describes November 1–30 arrangements. No explanation reconciling those dates was established in the sources checked for this report.

The work itself is not an emergency announced today. EUROCONTROL identifies runway pavement renewal and associated taxiway work. Euronews reported on October 30 that the approximately €30 million project also includes lighting upgrades, with work planned around the clock during a quieter travel period. Today's development is the start of the closure, not a newly discovered construction plan.
At Salerno, check the terminal as well as the airport
GESAC's November guidance divides flights between two terminals. The commercial terminal handles domestic services and listed international routes including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Düsseldorf, Paris and Stuttgart. The new general aviation terminal is assigned flights serving Casablanca, Dubai, Madrid and Sharm el-Sheikh.
That second building's name could be misleading for someone expecting a private-flight facility: the operator explicitly assigns those international passenger services there during November. A destination on the list does not establish that a particular booking has been transferred, or that a route operates every day.
The buildings are approximately 1,300 metres apart. GESAC advertises a free inter-terminal shuttle from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., approximately every 20 minutes and coordinated with flight schedules. Confirm the correct terminal before arranging a taxi or asking someone to collect you; leave time to correct a mistaken drop-off.
The Naples–Salerno bus has an important condition
Busitalia Campania's special service connects Naples Centrale with Salerno Airport from November 1 to 30. The published fare is €12 per journey. Crucially, the operator says the service is reserved for passengers holding an airline ticket valid for the day they use the bus.
Although the route is described as Naples Centrale–Piazza Garibaldi, the operator specifies the Naples stop on Via Galileo Ferraris. Follow that stop information, not simply a map pin for the railway station. The timetable lists eight departures in each direction daily; most scheduled journeys take 75 minutes. On-board purchases require electronic payment.
There is also a separate Salerno Airlink connection between Salerno railway station and the airport, advertised by the airport as a 40-minute motorway journey. Neither published journey time is a guarantee against road delays. Build the transfer around the airline's check-in deadline, not just the aircraft's departure time.
Before you leave for the airport
Open the booking directly with the airline or ticket seller. Confirm the operating airport, terminal, local departure time and any changed connection. Ask what arrangements apply to your own ticket before buying a replacement flight or a non-refundable transfer; this report cannot establish an individual passenger's rebooking or refund entitlement.
Keep the latest confirmation available offline. If a forwarded screenshot contradicts it, check the original notice and its date—the same method explained in our guide to checking online news. A general closure announcement is useful context, but it is not a boarding instruction.
